Who

Basketball

Boys and girls K5 through the 6th Grade. All children will make a team, play an equal amount of time, and have an equal amount of starts. REGISTER ONLINE, at Evaluation Day (see below), or by completing a registration brochure at the church.

Cheerleading

Girls K5 through the 6th Grade. Teams will be formed by age, based on the total number of girls who register. REGISTER ONLINE, at Evaluation Day (see below), or by completing a registration brochure at the church.

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is open to ALL children. You do not need to be a member of FBC Tampa, or any other church to participate.

What

An eight-week basketball season that seeks to develop the basketball or cheerleading skills of the children as well as to teach sportsmanship, character, and values. This is a faith-based program.

Where

On the First Baptist Church of Tampa campus. The gym is on the second floor of the Carlton Building. The stairs are adjacent to the Preschool/Children's entry. Directional signs will be posted.

When

Registration is open into the season. Practices are limited to once a week for one hour. There is one game per week, also lasting one hour. The season concludes with an Awards Banquet. Here are the key dates:

Evaluation Days: JANUARY 7 and JANUARY 14

All children will make a team, but in an effort to draft teams fairly, players must be evaluated based on basic skills and height. Basketball players and cheerleaders will also be sized for uniforms at Evaluation Day. Attend ONE of the days based on the following schedule:

K5 Basketball: 9-10 a.m.
1-2 Grade Basketball:10-11 a.m.
3-4 Grade Basketball: 11-12 p.m.
5-6 Grade Basketball: 12-1 p.m.
Cheerleading (sizing): 1-2 p.m.

Practices Begin: FEBRUARY 4

Teams practice once per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday for one hour. Practice will be the same night each week and will last one hour. Teams will also practice Saturday, February 4 and Saturday, February 11.

Games: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18 - SATURDAY, APRIL 7

The season is eight weeks long. All games are on Saturday and will last for one hour.

Awards Night: FRIDAY, APRIL 13 or SATURDAY, APRIL 14

All players and cheerleaders will receive an end-of-the-year award and other awards will also be distributed during this banquet. Depending on the number of registrations, there will either be one or two banquets. 

Cost

The cost is $65 per participant if registered on or before December 31, 2011. The cost increases to $70 on January 1, 2012. The cost includes uniform, end-of-the-year gift, the Awards Banquet, and more. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE.
